Collectors Guide To Roseville Pottery Rozane Della Robbia, 1906-1907

What is Rozane Della Robbia?

Rozane Della Robbia is a line of art pottery produced in 1906-1907 by the Roseville Pottery Company in Zanesville, Ohio.

Who designed the Rozane Della Robbia?

The Della Robbia line was designed by Frederick Rhead.

The success of the early Della Robbia line of 1904 gave the Roseville Pottery Company the confidence to rework the entire Della Robbia concept for the Rozane product line.

The Rozane Della Robbia differed from the Early Della Robbia by a number of factors. The most obvious was the addition of polychrome glaze treatments. The Early line had been restricted to two color layers with the artwork being carved down into the second colored layer. The Rozane offerings added many brilliant enamel glaze-colored features to the deeply-carved designs, sometimes as many a five or even six distinct colors on the same piece. Another distinction between the lines were the chosen shapes. Whereas the Early Della Robbia used the same shapes as the Aztec Line, the Rozane Della Robbia shapes were designed specifically for this line. It is worth noting that several of the Della Robbia shapes were re-tasked for the Olympic Line.

The original Della Robbia pattern had 18 vases and 12 tea and chocolate pots. The Rozane offering had 70 recorded shapes, although several were bowls which were available in multile sizes.

When was Rozane Della Robbia made?

The Rozane Della Robbia line was only produced in 1906-1907.

Unlike many other lines of the time, Roseville was strict about the adherence to the designs of Della Robbia. While some color variety can be found, the designs themselves remained standardized from piece to piece. Unlike the early line, nearly all of the Rozane pieces have the rozane wafers on the bottom.

Rozane Della Robbia raely comes to market, making this line one of the most highly-sought and expensive of Roseville Pottery to collect.
